  • Sons and Daughters!

'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
    Acts 2:16-18

I don't want to say these are the last days.  I don't want to say that I have a gift of prophesy.  I don't want to say that I am an old man (old woman perhaps, but certainly not old man).  I do want to say that I am dreaming dreams.  I am dreaming that a woman named Susan will soon be standing in our pulpit.  I am dreaming that the congregation will love her instantly and that they will welcome her with open arms. I am dreaming that she will wake us up out of our comfortable lives and lead us into ministry that we have never imagined.  I am dreaming that we will all see that Susan is just the "man" God had in mind to pastor his flock at Bagby.

I have decided to end this post now before I say more than I should.  Pray for our church.  Pray hard.

  • Changing Sheets

This is such an interesting time in my life!  I am Lay Director of the upcoming Women's Walk to Emmaus.  We had our final team meeting today and I came home to find that our borrowed boy Clint had called to say he is in Carter County, but hadn't yet shown up at our house.  Ray is also not at the house.  I changed the sheets so Clint would have a fresh place to sleep tonight and I looked around the room and gave thanks for all the evidence of young life.  Hanging on the closet door is the formal that Gloria will wear when her choir performs at the Lincoln Center later this month, in the floor is Ray's laptop.  A guitar is leaning against the wall and a microphone is in the seat of a chair.  It might sound like clutter, but to me it is life and it is beautiful!

I give thanks when I come in this room.  I give thanks for Kara Kay who came to visit and forced me to change my junk room into at least a semi comfortable guest room.  Because she came for a visit, my home is more welcoming to other visitors.  I thank God for Clint who is such a good friend to my boy.  I thank God for Gloria, she adds music to all of our lives and quite a little bit of joy and laughter as well. Then I look at the pictures scattered on the walls and thank the Lord for my beautiful grand boys and my lovely daughter and fine son-in-law.  I see pictures of Roger given to me by his high school band and their director.  I am thankful for those lives as well.  This room which once housed way too much junk, now houses many memories and promises to hold many more.

So after more than 4 months, I was inspired to post just because I changed some sheets!

God bless and keep you all!  Does anyone still read this?

  • Christmas

Tonight as the last hour of Christmas 2008 slips away, I decided to blog a little and just let the world know that I am alive and praising God for His most beautiful gift to us!  I cannot imagine my life without faith in Jesus Christ.  I lived an empty life for a long time.  It was full of work and worry, but it had no time for prayer, for communing with Christian friends, it had no room for Jesus.  I thank God for the difference I have experienced in the last seven years.  I prayed a prayer on December 30, 2001 that recommitted my life to Christ.  I wasn't exactly wallowing in sin when I prayed that prayer (I was chaperoning a youth trip and was very involved at church), but I had no sense of direction and no feeling of purpose.  I still have a long way to go, but I have come a long way in my relationship with God since that day.  I pray that I will continue growing as I walk each day in the dust of my Rabbi.

Lord, please let me grow dustier each day as I try to follow you more and more closely.  Show me how to live as your disciple.  Give me a servants heart and willing hands.  Let me live my life as you would have me live it.  Amen

  • Communication . . .

Through Prayer.  That is the title of the Chrysalis talk I have to write.  I have thought it out a million times in the last few weeks, yet not one word of it is in place on my computer.  I even bought a book to help with the fun introduction I have planned, then ka-pow, my ideas seem to blow out and I am back to the beginning with nothing done and just a jumble of ideas.

I heard some amazing previews today.  I don't know what I am going to say, but I do know that it will have to be incredible in order to live up to the standards of this flight.  I have had one good experience of communication through prayer today, so to celebrate I will get off of this blog and try to work on my talk.

Grace and peace of the Lord be with you,

    Janie

  • Amaizing!

Yes, I know that is corny.  I am in my corny teacher inventing bulletin board titles mode.  I was just thinking of my most recent field trip.  We went to a corn maze (Why don't they call it a Maize maze?).  We were told as we set off on our adventure that if we made no wrong turns we would walk .9 miles.  We made plenty of wrong turns.  It was fun and good exercise.  One of my little boys was saying over and over "This is fun!"  One of my female students who is quite round finally demanded "Just what are you calling fun?"  When we finally reached marker 11 (there were twelve markers) this little girl nearly kissed the number!  As it turns out, one man's fun is another man's torture.  I gues I already knew that!

My life has been crazy busy.  I am in the middle of parent conferences.  This weekend we had our first team meeting for the January Chrysalis flight.  I will post something better and more informative than this soon.  I promise!

About Me

  • I am a mom of an amazing 21 year old college student. I also have a wonderful married daughter and three beautiful grandboys. I am a growing Christian - but then shouldn't we all be growing? I am an active member of my Emmaus community and started this site to contact my son's college friends when he was attending a Chrysalis flight. I thought it would end when the flight was over, but now I see it as a way to maintain contact with him and to get to know other Christian women who may have the same interests and challenges that I face. I am also a kindergarten teacher.

Pulse

  • I am greatly frustrated by slow connections, old computers and blogs with too much cutsie junk!  Keep it real simple if you love me!
  • I now have a pulse!  I am having car trouble again. Think of me as you drive your wellbehaved car.
